Recording of the Madrigals
The Astra Choir from Melbourne with New World Records has released a recording that includes the first commercial recording of Glanville-Hicks’s surviving three madrigrals from the Six Madrigals (1955). Settings of texts by Wallace Stevens, there is no known performance before their revival by the choir. Unsettled Choruses: A Terrain of Humming and Phonetics 1930–1974 is conducted by John McCaughey and includes tracks by Ruth Crawford Seeger, Stefan Wolpe and Ernst Toch, all contemporaries of Glanville-Hicks.
